career

After Jamison three years for the University of North Carolina had played, he was the 1998 NBA draft in fourth place by the Toronto Raptors selected, which meant his entry into professional basketball. Previously, he had already attracted various awards from college sports that honored his great talent (including college player of the year in the 1997-98 season).

On the night of the draft, however, he was traded in exchange for Vince Carter to the Golden State Warriors , where he played until 2003. He had a relatively disappointing rookie season at the Warriors, but was one of the bright spots on the Golden State team. He finished the season with 9.6 points and 6.4 rebounds and was called to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team . The following year Jamison improved enormously and scored 19.6 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. During his time at Golden State, he scored 50 points in two consecutive regular season games in the 2000/01 season . He scored this against the Seattle Supersonics and the Los Angeles Lakers , in which Kobe Bryant also scored 50 points. That two opposing players scored 50 points each had only happened twice before. With 24.9 points per game, he finished third in the league's scoring list at the end of the season. In the 2003-04 season he played together with Dirk Nowitzki at the Dallas Mavericks , with whom he could reach the play-offs for the first time in his career (season record : 52:30 wins; first play-off round). During this season he was also awarded the coveted Sixth Man Trophy, which honors the best substitute player in the NBA , with 14.8 points per game .

At the end of this season it was traded again. His new team were then the Washington Wizards , where he was able to play in the All-Star Team for the first time in the 2004-05 season . This year he was also able to reach the second play-off round for the first time in his career. In 2006 Jamison failed with the Washington Wizards in the first play-off round at the Cleveland Cavaliers . In 2008 Jamison was invited again to the NBA All-Star Game. The time in Washington was his best playfully. Jamison was a profitable scorer who, alongside Caron Butler and Gilbert Arenas, scored a good 20 points on average and reached the playoffs four times in a row between 2005 and 2008.

On February 17, 2010 he was traded for Žydrūnas Ilgauskas to the Cleveland Cavaliers . There he played for a few months at the side of Forward LeBron James . After his departure, Jamison stayed with the Cavaliers, but the team failed to make the play-offs in 2011 and 2012. However, Jamison remained an important part of the team and put on a good 17 points and 6 rebounds per game for Cleveland.

After his contract in Cleveland expired, Antawn Jamison joined the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2012/2013 season . There he received a contract for a year. The Lakers came back from the bench for the first time since his time in Dallas and scored 9.4 points and 4.8 rebounds for them.

Since August 2013 he was under contract with the Los Angeles Clippers . There, however, he could not take on a leading role as a bench player as hoped and also missed some games due to injuries. In February 2014 he was transferred from the Clippers to the Atlanta Hawks . He was fired from them shortly after the trade.

Jamison completed 1,083 season games in his NBA career and scored 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds on average.

After his career ended, Jamison began working as a basketball expert for the Lakers games at Time Warner Cable SportsNet .
