Aaron Fitzgerald McKie (born October 2, 1972 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , United States ) is a retired American basketball player and current coach who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) between 1994 and 2007 . McKie won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award in 2001 .
Career
McKie played the first two and a half years for the Portland Trail Blazers , where he was a starter in his sophomore year and scored 10.7 points on average. After a disappointing start to the 1996-97 season, he was given to the Detroit Pistons . A year later he was transferred to his hometown with the Philadelphia 76ers . Here he spent most of his career replacing Allen Iverson and Eric Snow . In 2001 McKie won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award for Best Banker of the Season. In the same year he reached the NBA finals with the Sixers, but there they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers . After his performance in the 2004-05 season fell sharply, he was fired by the Sixers and joined the Lakers. However, he was only used sporadically there and ended his career in 2007.
Coaching career
After his coaching career, he was immediately accepted as an assistant coach in the coaching staff of the 76ers. He remained in this position until 2013. In 2014 he returned to his former Temple University as an assistant coach.
