Eric Snow (born April 24, 1973 in Canton , Ohio ) is a retired American basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the National Basketball Association . The 1.91 meter tall Snow played in the position of point guard and previously played in the NBA for the Seattle SuperSonics and the Philadelphia 76ers .

Career

Snow was signed 43rd in the 1995 NBA draft from the Milwaukee Bucks , but was immediately transferred to the SuperSonics. For the first two years he was a substitute for Gary Payton and played about ten minutes per game. During the 1997/98 season he was transferred to the 76ers, and under coach Larry Brown it made the offensively limited, but defensively strong Snow in the team's starting lineup. At the side of Allen Iverson , Snow reached the 2001 NBA Finals, where the 76ers lost 4-1 to the Los Angeles Lakers .

Snow's best season was probably 2002/03 , where he scored 12.9 points per game and was elected to the all-defensive team. His good free throw rate of 86% was also remarkable, as Snow had barely converted 50% of his free throws in his early years. With the 76ers he reached the playoffs several times, but failed early and was finally passed on to the Cavaliers in 2005. At the side of LeBron James , Snow reached the NBA Finals for the second time in his career in 2007. As a reserve player, Snow could not prevent the 4-0 debacle against the San Antonio Spurs . The next year he developed arthritis in his left knee, which made him practically a sports invalid. In the 2007/08 season he was still able to play 22 games for the Cavaliers, since then he has not been on the field because of his illness. Snow currently works as a television expert and spokesman for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Private life

Snow is married to DeShawn and has three sons, E. J., Darius and Jarren. His older brother Percy Snow is a retired American football player for the Kansas City Chiefs . Snow is involved in charities in his Shoot For The Moon Foundation for the upbringing of young children. He was nominated for the NBA Sportsmanship Award in 1998 and 1999 , which he also won in 1999. In 2004 he was nominated for the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award , and eventually won it in 2005.
