Ricky Charles Pierce (born August 19, 1959 in Dallas , Texas ) is a retired American basketball player who played in the NBA between 1982 and 1998 . Pierce was able to win the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award for best banker twice in his career .

Career

Pierce was selected 18th in the 1982 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons . After brief stints with the Pistons and the San Diego Clippers , he ended up with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1984 . Pierce became an important key player at the Bucks. In 1987 he won his first Best Sixth Man Award . Coming from the bench, he scored 19.5 points per game. In 1990 he won the award again. He scored 23.0 points per game and only started one game, this point average is still the NBA record for a pure substitute.

1991 followed a transfer to the Seattle SuperSonics for Dale Ellis . Pierce celebrated his most successful time in sport with the Sonics. He reached the Western Conference finals in 1993 with the then young players Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp . The Sonics lost to the Phoenix Suns, led by Charles Barkley and Kevin Johnson , in the seventh game of the best-of-seven series.

Pierce spent the last years of his career at various NBA clubs, where he never stayed for more than a year. After a brief interlude in Greece, he returned to the Bucks in 1997, where he announced his retirement at the end of the season. During his career, Pierce scored 14.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.
