Daniel Ricardo "Danny" Manning (born May 17, 1966 in Hattiesburg , Mississippi , United States ) is a former American basketball player and current coach who played between 1988 and 2003 in the National Basketball Association . Manning was the first overall pick in the 1988 NBA draft . In 1998 he won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award . Since 2014 he has been coaching the basketball team at Wake Forest University .

college

Manning played for the University of Kansas for four years . In 1988 he won the NCAA championship with the Jayhawks . Manning ended his college career as one of the greatest players of all time. So he left his university as the best point collector and rebounder in university history, as well as the most successful point collector of the Big Eight Conference . He was later named Big Eight Player of the Decade for this. Manning also took part in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul and won the bronze medal with the national team.

NBA

In the 1988 NBA Draft , Manning was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers in 1st place. He played for the Clippers for a total of six years. In 1993 and 1994 he was called up to the NBA All-Star Game . During the 1993-1994 season he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Dominique Wilkins . He stayed with the Hawks only until the end of the season and then moved to the Phoenix Suns . With the Suns he took on the role of the sixth man . In 1998 he was honored for his achievements with the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award for best banker in the league.

In the last few years of his career, Manning played for various teams, but without playing a key role. In 2003 Manning ended his career.

During his 15-year NBA career, Manning posted 14.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

Coaching career

After the end of his career, he returned to his former University of Kansas, where he was able to win the NCAA championship again as an assistant coach in 2008 . In 2012 Manning took over the position of trainer at the University of Tulsa . With this he reached the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2014. For this achievement he was voted Coach of the Year in Conference USA . He has been a trainer at Wake Forest University since 2014 .
