Louis Tyrone "Lou" Williams (born October 27, 1986 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American basketball player. He currently plays in the NBA as a guard for the Los Angeles Clippers .

NBA career

Philadelphia 76ers

After a very successful time at South Gwinnett High School with numerous awards, Williams decided against going to college and signed up directly for the 2005 NBA draft . In the draft, he was only selected in 45th place by the Philadelphia 76ers . In his rookie season, he received very little time. He only took part in 30 games and scored an average of 1.9 points.

Williams also had problems early in his second season and was sent to the Fort Worth Flyers D-League team . After 3 successful games, he returned to the 76ers for the remainder of the season and received a little more game minutes. In the 2007/08 season , Williams established himself in the team. In 80 games he scored 11.5 points with 3.2 assists in an average of 23.3 minutes . After the season he signed a 5-year contract on significantly improved terms.

In the following season he was able to further improve his values slightly. In the 2009/10 season he was on the grid for the first time in 38 games. With 14 points and 4.2 assists per game, he achieved the best values of his NBA career.

In the 2011/12 season the values remained stable. The 76ers were able to reach the playoffs again after a year break, but failed in the first round due to the Miami Heat .

Atlanta Hawks

In July 2012, Williams decided to leave the 76ers after seven years in Philadelphia. He signed a contract with the Atlanta Hawks . In two years with the Hawks, Williams was an important part of the rotation and mostly acted as the "sixth man" from the bank. However, he also missed many games due to injuries.

Toronto Raptors

In June 2014 Lou Williams moved to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for John Salmons . Williams played 80 games this season and achieved a season average of 15.5 points per game, the best of his career to date. He also started in no single game for the Raptors. For his achievements, he was awarded the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award at the end of the season , as the best banker of the season.

Los Angeles Lakers

In July 2015, Lou Williams was signed by the Los Angeles Lakers . At the Lakers, Williams initially had problems finding his role due to some injuries, but this changed for the 2016/2017 season. With the departure of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, Williams moved more into focus and was one of the best players on the team in an inconsistent team. In February 2017, the Lakers traded him in exchange for Corey Brewer and a first-round pick in the upcoming draft for the Houston Rockets .

Houston Rockets

In February 2017, Williams was transferred to the Houston Rockets for a draft pick. With the Rockets he came in the remaining 23 games of the season to 14.9 points on average. At the end of the season he was transferred to the Los Angeles Clippers in a large-scale swap with three other players for Chris Paul .

successes

Lou Williams is the first player with the Toronto Raptors to win the Sixth Man Award ( 2014/15 season ) for best banker of the season. In the 2017/18 season he won the award a second time with the Los Angeles Clippers. In the 2018/19 season he was able to defend this title and, after Jamal Crawford, was only the second player to win this award a third time. Alongside Detlef Schrempf, he is the only NBA player who managed a 30-point triple double from the bench.
