In the following season as a sophomore , as a student in the third and fourth semester, he was able to improve further and reached 12.8 points and 6.1  rebounds per game. Morris was elected to the Big 12 Conference Second Team and was recognized by Yahoo! NBA

In the 2011 NBA draft , Morris was selected in 14th place, one place behind his brother Markieff, by the Houston Rockets . He made his first appearance in the NBA on December 26, 2011 in the game with the Orlando Magic . On January 2, 2012, the Rockets gave him to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the NBA Development League (D-League) to give him more time there. During the 2011/12 season, Morris switched several times between the NBA and D-League . For the Rockets he played 17 times this season with an average playing time of 7.4 minutes, in which he reached 2.4 points.

Due to the injury of Patrick Patterson, Morris moved into the starting line-up at the beginning of the 2012/13 season . On December 29, 2012 he scored in the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder with 24 points, his previous career best.

In February 2013, Morris was transferred from the Rockets to the Phoenix Suns . In return, the Rockets received a pick in the 2013 NBA Draft . This means that Morris is now under contract with the Suns with his twin brother. This is only the second time in NBA history that twin brothers have played in a franchise at the same time since the 1976/77 season when Tom and Dick Van Arsdale played for the Suns .

In the summer of 2015, Morris was transferred to the Detroit Pistons . From 2017 Morris played for the Boston Celtics , from 2019 for the New York Knicks and since February 2020 for the Los Angeles Clippers .
