Montrezl Dashay Harrell (born January 26, 1994 in Tarboro , North Carolina ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Los Angeles Clippers of the NBA .

High school and college

After getting 25.2 points and 13.6 rebounds per game in his senior year at Hargrave Military Academy , Harrell originally wanted to attend Virginia Tech . After the coach there was dismissed, the university revoked the commitment and Harrell opted for the University of Louisville .

In his freshman season with the Louisville Cardinals, he came off the bench as a backup behind the starting power forward Chane Behanan. In the final of the Big East Conference against Syracuse , he scored 20 points. The Cardinals team also won the 2013 NCAA Division I Basketball Championship with Harrell as a rotation player .

After three years in college, Harrell signed up for the 2015 NBA draft . In his final season he averaged 15.7 points and 9.2 rebounds.

NBA career

On draft day in June 2015, Harrell was selected in 32nd position by the Houston Rockets . On September 19, 2015, he signed a three-year contract with the Texans. He made his debut in the NBA on October 28 against the Denver Nuggets . In the 85-105 defeat he had eight points and three rebounds. Just two days later he scored double digits when he scored 17 points in the game against the Golden State Warriors . On March 28, he received a five-game ban for pushing a referee in one game. In his debut season 2015/16 he also played several times for the G-League team of the Rockets, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers .

On November 2, 2016, he succeeded in a 118-99 win against the New York Knicks , with 17 points and 10 rebounds, a double-double . He marked a new career high on December 30, 2016 when he scored 29 points in a 140:116 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers . On January 8, he topped this with 28 points in the game against the Toronto Raptors .

On June 28, Harrell was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in preparation for the 2017-18 season . He moved together with Patrick Beverley , Sam Dekker , Darrun Hilliard, Lou Williams , Kyle Wiltjer and the rights for a future Erstrundenpick, in exchange for Chris Paul to the franchise in California . On January 11, 2018, he scored 25 points in the 121: 115 win over the Sacramento Kings .

For the 2018/19 season , Harrell signed again as a free agent with the Clippers. His new contract guarantees him $ 12 million over the next two years. On February 25, 2019, he scored 32 points in the 121: 112 win against the Dallas Mavericks and thus achieved a new career record. He came this season for the first time in all 82 regular season games, in which he made an average of 16.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
