Kyle Gregory Wiltjer (born October 2, 1992 in Portland ) is a Canadian - American basketball player .

career

Wiltjer's father Greg played for the Canadian national basketball team and reached fourth place with this at the 1984 Olympic Games . Kyle Wiltjer is a Canadian and US citizen. He attended Jesuit High School in Portland, Oregon, and played for the local basketball team. In 2011 he took part in his hometown Portland as part of a world selection at the "Nike Hoop Summit" and scored twelve points in the game against the USA team. From the 2011/12 game year he was part of the university team at the University of Kentucky ; Wiltjer had previously also had scholarships from other well-known universities such as the University of California , the Georgia Institute of Technology , Gonzaga University , the University of Kansas , the University of Texas at Austin and Wake Forest University . In his first season in the first NCAA division, he won the championship title with Kentucky, Wiltjer contributed to this success in 40 missions on average 5.0 points and was the third best player of his team in this category with 35 three-point throws. During the 2013 summer break, he left Kentucky and joined Gonzaga University. In the 2013/14 season he did not take part in the game operation due to the transfer regulations and then played 74 games for Gonzaga between 2014 and 2016. In both of his years he was Gonzaga's best scorer (16.8 points per encounter in the 2014/15 season and 20.4 points per game during the 2015/16 season).

In the NBA draft proceedings in 2016, Wiltjer was not included, but signed a contract with the NBA team Houston Rockets in June 2016 . During the 2016/17 season he made 14 short appearances for the Texans, but played mainly in the training team Rio Grande Valley Vipers , for which he was a top performer with an average of 20.5 points per encounter. In June 2017 he was swapped to the Los Angeles Clippers , but released there in July 2017 and then signed by the Toronto Raptors . He was on the field in preparation matches for the Canadians, but was removed from the squad before the start of the 2017/18 season. At the end of October 2017, Wiltjer accepted an offer from the top Greek team Olympiacos Piraeus . With Olympiakos he played in both the Greek league and the Euroleague , but remained a supplementary player in the European club competition with 4.5 points per match.

In the 2018/19 season he was under contract with the Spanish ACB league club Unicaja Malaga and also played for the team in the EuroCup . During the summer break of 2019, Wiltjer moved to Türk Telekomspor in the Turkish capital Ankara .

National team

With Canada's U18 national team, Wiltjer won bronze at the American Championships in 2010, and in 2013 he took part in Canada's selection at the Summer Universiade in Kazan and came in fourth. In July 2015, he was a member of the Canadian national team that played the Pan American Games in Toronto . At the 2019 World Cup, he was the top scorer of the Canadian national team with an average of 16.4 points per match.
