Olympiakos Piraeus BC completely Olympiakos Syndesmos Filathlon Peiraios ( Greek Ολυμπιακός Σύνδεσμος Φιλάθλων Πειραιώς , German Olympic Sports Association of Friends of Piraeus), short Olympiakos is the outsourced basketball section of the Greek sports club Olympiakos SFP . The club is one of eleven teams that have an A license from the ULEB Euroleague . In addition to several championships and cup titles, Olympiacos also won several European titles.

history

Olympiacos was founded on March 10, 1925. The members of the clubs "Piraeus Sports and Football Club" and "Football Fan Club of Piraeus" spoke out at a historic meeting in 1925 in favor of the dissolution of both clubs and the establishment of a new club. The founding members Notis Kamperos and Michalis Manouskos were the namesake. Notis Kamperos suggested the name Olympiakos, Michalis Manouskos, the first President of Olympiacos Piraeus, completed it: Olympiakos Syndesmos Filathlon Peiraios, OSFP

In 1931, the basketball division of Olympiacos was established. The club's nickname is the legend ( Greek Θρύλος Thrylos ). The basketball department is one of the top teams in Greek and European basketball. Olympiacos is a multiple Greek champion and cup winner , and has also won several European titles.

Current situation

After Olympiakos did not face arch rivals Panathinaikos in the first round of the playoffs in the 2018/19 season , the club was punished with relegation. From the 2019/20 season, the Olympiakos club will take part in the international EuroLeague competition with its first team and play in the A2 Ethniki with a second selection, in which mainly younger players are used .
