Ioannis Bourousis ( Greek Ιωάννης Μπουρούσης , born November 17, 1983 in Karditsa , Greece ) is a Greek basketball player .

Career

Ioannis Bourousis was born in Karditsa in Thessaly . From 1998 he played in the basketball club of his hometown GC Karditsa (3rd division). In 2000 he moved to the first division club AEK Athens . In 2001 he won the Greek championship with his team. In 2006 Bourousis finally moved to Olympiacos Piraeus. His way to Spain took him via Italy. For the 2015/16 season, Borousis took part in the Euroleague competition for the 14th time in a row . Anyway, Bourousis experienced one of his strongest seasons with Laboral Kutxa . In the Spanish league , the Greek has been named player of the week five times and player of the month twice. At the end of the main round in the best five and voted most valuable player of the season. He was also named Player of the Month in the Euroleague in March and was subsequently appointed to the All-Euroleague First Team . He led his club into the Final Four competition of the Euroleague and met Fenerbahçe Ülker in the second semifinals on May 13, 2016 . However, the center's 22 points and 10 rebounds in the game were not enough to prevent a defeat in extra time, which Kostas Sloukas had forced for Fenerbahçe with his equalizer shortly before the end of regular time. In the small finals, Laboral had to look for it and was defeated by the Kuban locomotive trained by Giorgos Bartzokas with 75:85 points. The Spanish team ended its Euro League season in fourth place with a Bourousis who averaged 14.5 points per game.

The center, courted by many clubs, decided in summer 2016 to switch back to the Greek league. As in the past, he had turned down offers from the NBA again. In mid-July 2016, his move to Panathinaikos Athens was confirmed, with which he had signed for the following two years. With this he won the double consisting of championship and cup success, but he had his contract dissolved again in order to switch to the Chinese league . With the Zhejiang Guangsha Lions, the center took second place at the end of the 2017/18 season, after the Lions lost 4-0 to the Liaoning Flying Leopards in the final of the playoffs for the Chinese championship.

In 2005 Bourousis made his debut in the Greek national basketball team and took part in the European Championship in Serbia . There he reached the gold medal with his team and hit u. a. in the final Germany with 78:62. At the 2009 European Basketball Championships , Bourousis, who has meanwhile become a regular player, took third place and a bronze medal.
