Elvenking is a power and Celtic / Folk Metal band founded in Italy in 1997 .

Band history

Elvenking was founded in October 1997 by guitarists Aydan and Jarpen. First bassist Sargon joined the band, followed by vocalist Damnagoras in March 1998, but it was not until the following September that the band was stabilized by drummer Zender. In 2000, the first promo CD To Oak Woods Bestowed was recorded, through which Elvenking received a recording contract with AFM Records . After Sargon left the band, he was replaced by Gorlan, who was initially a session musician, but was soon accepted into the band. The first album Heathenreel was released on July 23, 2001.

In August 2002 Damnagoras left the band due to artistic differences. A replacement was found with singer Kleid as well as keyboardist and violinist Elyghen, with whom the album Wyrd was recorded, which was released on April 19, 2004. Damnagoras Elvenking rejoined in late 2004, while Kleid left the band. At the beginning of 2005, Jarpen finally ended his collaboration with the group. In March 2006 the third album The Winter Wake was released , followed in April by a small European tour as the opening act for Jon Oliva's Pain . For the title song of the album, singer Marcel “Lubricant” Schirmer from Destruction supported the band. In late September 2007, The Scythe, a concept album on the subject of death, was released. The band is then supported by guitarist Mike Wead ( King Diamond , Candlemass ). The first video in the band's history was released for the single The Divided Heart .

On November 14th, 2008 the first acoustic album Two Tragedy Poets (... and a Caravan of Weird Figures) by the Italian band was released. In addition to acoustic versions of The Winter Wake and The Wanderer (both albums The Winter Wake ), there are also new songs and the Belinda Carlisle cover Heaven Is a Place on Earth . On January 17th, Elvenking announced that Rafahel is now officially the band's second guitarist after supporting them live for over a year. The number of band members is therefore six. Since The Scythe was released , the band has been giving concerts at various festivals, especially in Italy and the surrounding countries.

With The Pagan Manifesto the eighth studio album by the band appeared, 2014. This was followed in December 2015 by the live album The Night of Nights , which was recorded in Pordenone, Italy, Elvenking's home. In November 2017 the band released their ninth studio album, titled Secrets of the Magick Grimoire . This will be followed on August 30, 2019 by Reader of the Runes - Divination .

style

Elvenking plays melodic Power Metal with strong folk and light Death Metal influences. In addition, many classic instruments such as B. used the violin (played by Elyghen). The songs are characterized by many solos as well as strong rhythm changes that underline the subject matter of the lyrics, which is also underlined by the very emotional singing.
