Jon Oliva's Pain is the solo project of Savatage founding member Jon Oliva .

Jon Oliva's Pain's music is closely related to Savatage's earlier releases. Stylistically, however, the band is a little freer; other elements have also found their way, not least from John Lennon, whom Oliva said was the greatest influence .

Band history

Between the last Savatage release Poets & Madmen from 2001 and the 2003 tour of the Trans Siberian Orchestra , in which all members of the band were involved, Jon Oliva found the time to start a solo project. The material for this was formed by songs that either stylistically did not fit Savatage or simply did not appear on their publications.

The memorial concert held in 2003 on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the death of Oliva's brother and Savatage guitarist Christopher "Criss" Oliva provided the framework for a first performance of Jon's solo material. He was supported by the musicians of the band Circle II Circle , who also played at the concert and played the band of the former Savatage singer Zak Stevens.

After Zak Stevens made a complete line-up change from Circle II Circle, Jon suddenly had a full band for his project. It was with this line-up that the first publication, entitled Tage Mahal , was tackled. Criss Oliva originally intended this name for his solo project, which he could no longer realize due to his early death in 1993.

In 2006 the second album, Maniacal Renderings , was released, which sounds more like Savatage compared to the debut album. Jon then used some ideas from his brother Criss, which he said he had recently rediscovered on old tapes. In the meantime, the line-up of the band with Shane French was expanded to include a second guitarist.

Global Warning , the name of the third album, was released in March 2008.

On April 20, 2011, Mitch Stewart (bassist of the band Circle II Circle ) announced on Facebook that Matt LaPorte had passed away for reasons unknown until now.
