The Regal FCB plays in the Palau Blaugrana with around 8,250 seats, which opened on October 23, 1971 . The team has won the Spanish basketball championship 18 times , making it the second most successful Spanish basketball club after Real Madrid . Today's NBA player Pau Gasol ( San Antonio Spurs ) and former NBA player Juan Carlos Navarro (Memphis Grizzlies) come from the club's youth work .

history

The club's successful period began in the 1940s when Barcelona won the Spanish Cup five times. FC Barcelona was one of the founding members of the Spanish basketball league in 1956. Three years later, the club became the first double winner in Spanish history. This was followed by less successful years. After relegation to the second division in 1964, they were immediately promoted again, but the club remained in the shadow of rivals Real Madrid and Joventut until the end of the 1970s .

The heyday of FC Barcelona came in the 1980s when Josep Lluís Núñez became president of the entire club. With Aíto García Reneses as coach and players like Nacho Solozábal , Chicho Sibilio , Epi and Andrés Jiménez , Barcelona won six Spanish championship titles and five Spanish cup finals. At the same time, Barcelona reached the final of the European Cup for the first time in 1984, won the Saporta Cup in 1985 and 1986 and in 1987 the Korać Cup and the European Supercup. As a further success, Barcelona reached the Final Four of the European Cup in three consecutive seasons between 1989 and 1991, but lost each time against the eventual cup winners, including twice in the final. Two more times, in 1996 and 1997, Barcelona again managed to reach the final of the national championship cup, but still without a final victory. The next European title came in 1999 with the second win of the Korać Cup. But only a year later, another disappointment followed in the final four of the national championship cup.

Three years later, when Barcelona hosted the Euroleague Final Four, they won their first Euroleague title. In the 2003 final, Barcelona beat Benetton Treviso 76:65. The main players in the team coached by Svetislav Pešić were Dejan Bodiroga , Gregor Fučka , Šarūnas Jasikevičius , Juan Carlos Navarro . After Barcelona won the Spanish Cup in 2006 and 2007 and the Spanish Championship in 2008/09, the club returned to the Final Four of the Euroleague that same year. There, however, the Catalans were defeated by PBK CSKA Moscow in the semifinals. In the 2009/10 season, Barcelona won their second Euroleague title with the stars Navarro, Ricky Rubio , Fran Vázquez , Erazem Lorbek and Pete Mickeal . The club achieved a win / loss ratio of 20/2. After Panathinaikos Athens failed to make it into the Final Four in 2011, Barcelona again reached the last four of the Euroleague in 2011. Here Barcelona lost in the semifinals to the eventual winner Olympiacos. Two years later, in 2013, the club again made it into the bottom four. However, they failed again in the semi-finals, this time to Real Madrid.
