Bàsquet Manresa , also known under the sponsor name BAXI Manresa , is a Spanish basketball club from the Catalan city of Manresa . The first team plays in the Spanish ACB league . The home games are played in the Pavelló Nou Congost with a capacity of 5,000 .
history
The club was founded in 1931 as Manresa Basquetbol Club and merged four years later under the name Unió Manresana de Bàsquet with CB Brages . In 1968, he was promoted to the first division for the first time . In the 1972 season , the club made its international debut by participating in the Korać Cup . The most successful era started in the 1990s, in the 1995/96 season the first major title could be won with the Copa del Rey and in the following year the team reached the last sixteen in the Eurocup , but the climax was to follow in 1997/98. Although the team finished the regular season of the ACB League only in 6th place, they surprisingly prevailed in the play-offs against CB Estudiantes , Real Madrid and TAU Cerámica to win the championship. The then 40-year-old captain and point guard Joan Creus was chosen as the MVP of the final series because of his outstanding achievements . The title win is considered to be the greatest sensation in the history of the ACB League. In the 1998/99 season, the club took part in the European Cup, but was eliminated in the intermediate round.
