history
The basketball club Valencia Basket Club broke away in 1986 from the football club Valencia CF , which they served as the basketball section until then, and registered as an independent club. The club achieved its first major successes in the late 1990s. In the 1997/98 season, the team qualified for the first time in the club's history for the Spanish Cup and was able to win it completely surprising. After victories against TAU Vitoria and Fórum Valladolid in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, the Valencians prevailed in the final with 89:75 against Festina Joventut . The title success also entitled for the first time to participate in an international competition, the Saporta Cup 1998/99. Here Pamesa Valencia , as the club was called at the time, reached the final, but lost to Benetton Treviso with 60:64.
After further finals in the Spanish Cup 1999/2000 and the Saporta Cup 2001/02, the next big success followed in the 2002/03 season. In the first edition of the newly created ULEB Cup , the second highest European competition for club teams, the team prevailed in the knockout phase against RheinEnergie Cologne , KK Zadar and CB Estudiantes and reached the final, where the Spaniards defeated KK Krka Novo mesto and theirs conquered the first international trophy. The club also reached the final play-off in the Spanish championship, but lost to FC Barcelona there .
The next big success should follow again on the international stage in 2009/10. At the Eurocup , Valencia reached the final round again, prevailed there in the quarter and semi-finals against Aris Thessaloniki and Bizkaia Bilbao Basket and met Alba Berlin in the final . With a clear 67:44 win against the German representative, Valencia captured its second international title. In the 2011/12 season, Valencia Basket Club reached the final of a European competition for the fifth time, but at the Eurocup they lost 68:77 to the Russian team BK Chimki . In the 2013/14 season , Valencia BC won the EuroCup for the third time and has been the record winner of this competition ever since. Due to the success, the team will start in the EuroLeague in the 2014/15 season .
