Fernando San Emeterio Lara (born January 1, 1984 in Santander , Cantabria ) is a Spanish basketball player . He plays in the positions of the small forward or as a shooting guard . He is currently under contract with the Spanish club Valencia Basket Club .
career
Fernando San Emeterio began his career in the youth of Forum Valladolid . He made his first-team league debut on September 29, 2001 against Caja San Fernando . In summer 2006 he moved to Akasvayu Girona , with whom he was able to conquer the FIBA EuroChallenge 2006/07. After two years in Catalonia , San Emeterio went to the traditional club Saski Baskonia (Caja Laboral), with whom he celebrated numerous successes, including winning the Spanish Cup in 2009 and the 2009/10 championship . In the 2010/11 season he was voted the most valuable player in the Spanish league for his strong performance, and was also part of the All-Euroleague First Team and the All-ACB Team as the best small forward .
National team
As a junior, Fernando San Emeterio took part with his country in the U-18 European Championship in Germany in 2002 , but his team only finished the tournament in ninth place.
As part of the preparation for the 2010 Basketball World Cup , he was appointed to the senior national team for the first time and made his debut in a friendly on August 1, 2010 against Canada . At the EM-2011 in Lithuania , he won the gold medal with Spain.
