Felipe Reyes Cabanas (born March 16, 1980 in Cordoba , Andalusia ) is a Spanish basketball player . The 2.04 m tall center / power forward plays for Real Madrid .

career

Felipe Reyes began his career in the youth team of the traditional Madrid club, Club Baloncesto Estudiantes . He made his debut for the first team on October 4, 1998 in a league game against TAU Vitoria . Despite his young age, he quickly rose to a permanent fixture at Estudiantes, won the Spanish Cup in 1999/2000 and averaged 16.9 points and 10.4 rebounds in the league in the 2002/03 season . In the summer of 2004, Reyes moved to city rivals Real Madrid , where he won the championship title in his first season. In the 2006/07 season, as team captain with Real Madrid, he not only won the second championship title, where he was elected MVP of the final series against FC Barcelona , but also won the ULEB Cup with an 87:75 in the final against Lietuvos rytas . In the 2008/09 season he was elected MVP of the Spanish Championship. On January 14, 2011, he surpassed Real Madrid's club record with 1,622 rebounds, which was held by Fernando Romay (1,620) up to that point . In the 2011/12 season he won the Spanish Cup with his club . In the 2012/13 season Real Madrid managed to win the Spanish championship again after six years, Reyes himself was again elected MVP of the final series against FC Barcelona. At the beginning of the season he and his team had already won the Supercup .

National team

Felipe Reyes played successfully for the Spanish national team as a junior . In 1998 he won gold with the juniors at the European Championship, followed by the junior world championship in 1999 . On August 17, 2001, Reyes made his debut for the senior team in a friendly against Israel . With his country he has won gold once at the basketball world championship ( 2006 ), twice gold ( 2009 , 2011 ), twice silver ( 2003 , 2007 ) and once bronze ( 2001 ) at European championships and the silver medals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and 2012 in London . With eight medals at major events, he is, along with Pau Gasol and Juan Carlos Navarro , one of the most successful players in the history of Spanish basketball.

Others

His brother Alfonso Reyes , who was nine years his senior, was also a well-known professional basketball player. He too began his career at Estudiantes and played for Real Madrid from 2002 to 2004 . In the Spanish national team it made a total of 140 missions.
