Howard Samuel "Trey" Thompkins III (born May 29, 1990 in Lithonia , Georgia ) is an American basketball player . His preferred position is that of the power forward .

career

Trey Thompkins began his career at the Wesleyan School in Gwinnett County . After graduating, he went to the University of Georgia , where he played for the Bulldogs in the NCAA's Southeastern Conference from 2008 to 2011 . A year before the end of his college days, Thompkins signed up for the NBA draft and was selected 37th by the Los Angeles Clippers . After a season with the Californians, Thompkins suffered a serious injury to his left knee in the summer of 2012 and was out for two years. The Clippers then dissolved his contract in March 2013.

After his rehabilitation, Thompkins moved to Russia to BK Nizhny Novgorod for the 2014/15 season . With these he made his debut on October 17 in the Euroleague and reached the round of 16 for the first time in club history. He himself averaged 14.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game in the continental competition . In the summer of 2015, Thompkins moved to the Spanish club Real Madrid .

National team

Trey Thompkins played the World Cup with the United States U-19 team in 2009 and won the title with his team by beating Greece 88:80 in the final. He himself brought it to 10.6 points and five rebounds per game over the course of the tournament .
