Pablo Laso Biurrún (born October 13, 1967 in Vitoria-Gasteiz ) is a Spanish basketball coach and former player.

career

player

Pablo Laso, son of the former Spanish national player and basketball coach José Laso , began his career at the club in his hometown of Saski Baskonia . Here he spent most of his career, playing in the first team for eleven years and celebrating his greatest success at the Spanish Cup in 1994/95, where he won the title with his club with an 88:80 in the final against Amway Zaragoza and became MVP of the tournament was appointed. He then moved to the Spanish top club Real Madrid , where he and his team won the European Cup Winners' Cup in the 1996/97 season . He started the 1998/99 season in the Italian Lega Basket Serie A for Lineltex Trieste , but moved back to Spain, to Unicaja Málaga , before the end of the season . After three more seasons at Casademont Girona, he let his career end in the 2002/03 season at Caprabo Lleida and Forum Valladolid.

During his 19-year career, he set all-time records for assists (2896 total; 4.64 per game) and steals (1219 total; 1.95 per game) in 624 games in the Spanish league .

National team

Pablo Laso took part as a junior with Spain at the U-18 European Championship 1986 in Gmunden , where his team finished fifth. He celebrated his first game for the senior national team on September 13, 1987 in the course of the Mediterranean Games . He was part of the final squad for the 1989 European Championships , the 1994 World Cup and the 1995 European Championship .

Trainer

Pablo Laso began his career in the 2003/04 season as a coach with Cerámicas Leoni Castellón in the LEB2, the third division in Spain. After a year in the ACB League at Pamesa Valencia , he took over the second division Alerta Cantabria . In the summer of 2007 he signed Lagun Aro GBC and immediately made it to the ACB league. After three seasons with the club from Donostia-San Sebastián in the Spanish first division, Real Madrid announced the signing of Pablo Laso as head coach. With the capital city, where he was active as a player from 1995 to 1997, he signed a contract that ran until 2013. Already in his first season Laso was able to conquer the cup with his team . At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he won the Spanish Supercup , he also reached the final of the Euroleague with Real Madrid and ended the year with a victory in the championship .
