Dimitrios Itoudis ( Greek Δημήτριος Ιτούδης , born September 8, 1970 in Veria , Greece ) is a former Greek basketball player and coach.

Player career

Dimitrios Itoudi's career as an active basketball player was relatively short-lived. Itoudis played it at a young age for Greek amateur clubs Ermis Trikalon and Alketa Alexandria , before this decided to Croatia draw to there at the University of Zagreb , a study of sports science take.

Coaching career

Itoudis made his first experiences as a coach during his studies, when he headed the youth department of Mladost Durdevac . From 1990 to 1992 he took over the coaching position with the second team of KK Zagreb , in order to rise to 1995 under the Croat Boško Božić as an assistant coach in the coaching staff of the first team. At the same time, Itoudis was also the trainer for the university team.

After returning to Greece, Itoudis signed a one-year contract with the traditional Greek club PAOK Thessaloniki for the 1995/1996 season . Initially thought of as assistant coach to Efthimios Kioumourtzoglou, Itoudis moved to the post of head coach after his dismissal and even made it to the cup final with PAOK. After further positions at Panionios Athens , Filippos Thessaloniki and MENT , Itoudis moved to Panathinaikos Athens in 1999 , where he took over the post of assistant coach under the Serbian star coach Željko Obradović . With Panathinaikos, Itoudis was able to win eleven championships and seven cup victories between 1999 and 2012 as well as the European Champions Cup in 2000 and the ULEB Euroleague in 2002, 2007, 2009 and 2011 .

After Obradović left the club in 2012, Itoudis also ended his work as assistant coach and moved to Turkey, where he took over the position of head coach at Banvit BK. After one season, he moved to the Russian top club CSKA Moscow in summer 2014, with whom he was able to defend the championship title of the VTB United League in his first season and was voted "Coach of the Year". In the 2015/16 season he coached ZSKA to achieve the seventh European success in the club's history and to defend the VTB championship again .

In the 2016/17 season he headed the world selection of the VTB All Star Games, which took place on February 11, 2017. At that time he was also considered the most promising candidate for the coaching position of the Hellenic national basketball team . However, he received no approval from ZSKA for this additional task. The Moscow team finished the season as VTB Champion and Final Four participant of the Euroleague. In the 2017/18 season , CSKA defended the championship and rewarded its fans with a return to the Final Four of the Euroleague.
