Xavier Pascual i Vives called Xavi Pascual (born September 9, 1972 ) is a Spanish basketball coach .

Life

Xavi Pascual was a youth coach at CB Gavà in his home country Spain from 1990 to 1994. In 1994/95 he coached the men's team at CB Cornellá and was also active there in the youth field. From 1995 to 1997 he worked as assistant coach for the Cornellá men. This was followed by a year as a trainer at CB Santfeliuenc. Afterwards, Xavi Pascual led the CB Olesa as the coach in charge of promotion to the fourth highest league, the EBA. As a newcomer to the EBA, he and his team took second place. He achieved promotion to the third highest division, LEB 2, and in 2002/03 to the second division of Spain, LEB 1, with CB Aracena in the 2001/02 season.

In 2005, Xavi Pascual joined the staff of FC Barcelona as assistant coach , and in February 2008 he was promoted to head coach, succeeding Dusko Ivanovic . In his tenure as head coach, which lasted until June 2016, Xavi Pascual led the team to four Spanish championship titles (2009, 2011, 2012, 2014), three cup wins (2010, 2011, 2013) and winning the Euroleague in the 2009/10 season . In 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014 he was also among the top four teams in the European league with Barcelona.

From October 2016, Xavi Pascual was the head coach of the Greek top team Panathinaikos Athens . In 2017 and 2018 he won the Greek championship with Panathinaikos, and in 2017 the cup competition. At European level, there was no success: in 2016/17 and 2017/18 they were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Euroleague. He was sacked in December 2018 after Panathinaikos had lost (six) more games than won (seven) in the Euroleague earlier in the 2018/19 season.

In mid-February 2020 he took over the coaching position at Zenit St. Petersburg .
