Gabriel Alejandro Deck (born February 8, 1995 in Añatuya ) is an Argentine basketball player . He plays in the position of the small forward .

career

Gabriel Deck was born in Añatuya, in northwest Argentina, and grew up in humble circumstances in the small community of Colonia Dora , in the Avellaneda department . At a young age, Deck was mainly interested in football, but through his brother Joaquín he came into contact with basketball and began playing at the local club Club Atlético Bartolomé Miter . On weekends, the Deck brothers drove to Ceres , 180 km away , in the department of San Cristóbal , to train in the somewhat larger Club Central Argentino Olímpico and play at a higher level.

In January 2009, 13-year-old Gabriel Deck moved with his brother to the provincial capital Santiago del Estero and hired for the well-known basketball club Asociación Atlética Quimsa . It was in Quimsa's youth that Decks began to rapidly rise to become one of the greatest talents in Argentine basketball. On January 15, 2010, the then only 14-year-old deck debuted in a championship game against Club Atlético Quilmes Mar del Plata in the professional squad. In the 2014/15 season he was finally able to win both the Torneo Súper 8 and the Argentine championship with his club . He himself was named the league's Most Improved Player . In 2016 Gabriel Deck moved to the state capital Buenos Aires , to CA San Lorenzo de Almagro . Here he made his breakthrough, won the Argentine championship in both 2016/17 and 2017/18 and also won the FIBA Americas League 2018 with his club . For his outstanding individual performances, he received in both final series for the Argentine Liga Nacional de Básquetbol the MVP award. In the 2017/18 season he was also voted the most valuable player in the regular season of the championship as well as in the final of the FIBA ​​Americas League.

In the summer of 2018, Gabriel Deck moved to the Spanish club Real Madrid , where he signed a contract that ran until June 2021.

National team

Gabriel Deck played in various junior championships for the Argentinian national team from 2009. He made his senior team debut on August 23, 2015 in preparation for the American Championship against Canada . Argentina ended the tournament in second place. He was in the squad of his national team at the 2016 Summer Olympics as well as at the 2017 American Championships , which again ended his team in second place.
