Añatuya is the capital of the General Taboada Department in the Santiago del Estero Province in northwest Argentina .

Añatuya is about 200 kilometers from the provincial capital Santiago del Estero . In the classification of the municipalities of the province, the city is classified as a municipality in the 1st category. The city has 23,286 inhabitants (2010, INDEC ), 55 percent of the population of the General Taboada Department. Añatuya is the seat of the Añatuya diocese .

There are two theories about the origin of the city name. One derives it from Quechua , where it means skunk . This was therefore chosen as the city symbol. Another theory sees a word composition from the Guaraní language in the city name . There means aña = devil and tuya = old, that means old devil .

The foundation date of the place is July 5, 1912.

Every year on April 27th, the Festival de la Tradición takes place in the Padre Suárez amphitheater .
