The Gwinnett County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Lawrenceville , named after the US naval officer James Lawrence .
geography
The county is located in north-central Georgia, about 130 km to the west from Alabama , about 100 km to the north from Tennessee and North Carolina, and to the northeast about 110 km from South Carolina . It has an area of 1131 square kilometers, of which 10 square kilometers are water surface. Gwinnett County is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Hall County , Barrow County , Walton County , Rockdale County , DeKalb County , Fulton County, and Forsyth Counties . The northwest boundary is formed by the Chattahoochee River .
The county is part of the metropolitan area of Atlanta .
history
Gwinnett County was formed from Land of the Creek and Cherokee as the 42nd County of Georgia on December 15, 1818 . It was named after Button Gwinnett , one of the three signatories of Georgia's Declaration of Independence.

According to the 2010 census, the then 805,321 inhabitants were distributed over 268,519 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.98 people per household. There are a total of 291,547 households.
75.7% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.40 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 45.6% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 15.3% of all households.
31.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 28.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 11.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 34 years. 49.3% of the population were male and 50.7% were female.
53.3% of the population identified themselves as whites, 23.6% as African-Americans , 0.5% as Indians and 10.6% as Asian Americans . 8.9% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.1% to several ethnic groups. 20.1% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 60,329 USD , while 13.8% of the population lived below the poverty line.
