The Elbert County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Elberton .

The county is located in northeast Georgia, borders South Carolina to the east and is approximately 100 km from Tennessee to the north . It has an area of 970 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Lincoln County , Wilkes County , Oglethorpe County , Madison County and Hart County .
history
Elbert County was formed on December 10, 1790 as the 13th County in Georgia from parts of Wilkes County. It was named after Samuel Elbert , a hero of the Revolutionary War and early governor of Georgia.

According to the 2010 census, the 20,166 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 8,063 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.47 people per household. There are a total of 9,583 households.
69.5% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 2.98 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 31.9% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 30.3% of all households.
26.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 23.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 41 years. 47.9% of the population were male and 52.1% were female.
65.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 29.5% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 0.6% as Asian Americans . 2.7% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.0% to several ethnic groups. 4.8% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 35,170 USD , while 20.5% of the population lived below the poverty line.
