The Taliaferro County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Crawfordville .

The county is located in northeast Georgia and covers an area of ​​506 square kilometers with no significant surface water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Wilkes County , Warren County , Hancock County , Greene County, and Oglethorpe Counties .

history

Taliaferro County was formed on December 24, 1825 as the 65th County in Georgia. It was named after Benjamin Taliaferro , a hero in the Revolutionary War and a member of Congress.

Taliaferro County is Georgia's smallest county by population.

According to the 2010 census, the 1717 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 759 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.25 people per household. There are a total of 1015 households.

63.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 2.83 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 24.9% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 36.4% of all households.

21.8% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 20.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 27.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 46 years. 49.0% of the population were male and 51.0% were female.

37.3% of the population identified themselves as whites, 59.6% as African-Americans , 0.1% as Indians and 0.6% as Asian Americans . 0.9% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.4% to several ethnic groups. 2.0% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

The average annual income per household was 28,152 USD , while 31.4% of the population lived below the poverty line.
