The county is located in the northwest, borders Alabama to the west and has an area of ​​780 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Carroll County , Coweta County and Troup County .

The county is part of the metropolitan area of ​​Atlanta .

history

Heard County was formed on December 22, 1830 from parts of Carroll County, Coweta County, and Troup County. It was named after Stephen Heard , a hero of the Revolutionary War.

86.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 9.8% as African-Americans , 0.3% as Indians and 0.5% as Asian Americans . 0.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.7% to several ethnic groups. 1.9% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

The average annual income per household was 41,525 USD , while 20.5% of the population lived below the poverty line.
