The Treutlen County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Soperton .

The county is located in east Georgia and has an area of ​​524 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water surface, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Emanuel County , Montgomery County , Wheeler County, and Laurens County .

history

Treutlen County was formed on August 21, 1917 as the 152nd County in Georgia from parts of Emanuel County and Montgomery County. It was named after John Adam Treutlen , who was born in Kürnbach (Karlsruhe district) in 1734 and was the first elected governor of Georgia.

65.2% of the population identified themselves as whites, 32.6% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 0.2% as Asian Americans . 0.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.0% to several ethnic groups. 1.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

The average annual income per household was 40,204 USD , while 18.7% of the population lived below the poverty line.
