The Tift County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Tifton .
geography
The county is located in south-central Georgia, about 50 miles from the northern Florida border , and covers an area of 696 square kilometers, of which ten square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Irwin County , Berrien County , Cook County , Colquitt County , Worth County, and Turner County .
history
Tift County was formed on August 17, 1905 from parts of Berrien County. Like the city of Tifton, it was named after Nelson Tift , a co-founder of the city of Albany and its mayor and later congress member.

According to the 2010 census, the 40,118 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 14,836 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.60 people per household. There are a total of 16,434 households.
69.6% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.12 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 36.3% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 25.1% of all households.
30.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 26.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 25.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 17.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 35 years. 47.9% of the population were male and 52.1% were female.
61.4% of the population identified themselves as whites, 29.0% as African-Americans , 0.2% as Indians, and 1.3% as Asian Americans . 6.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.6% to several ethnic groups. 10.1% of the population was Hispanic or Latino .
The average annual income per household was 37,613 USD , while 27.5% of the population lived below the poverty line.
