The Dawson County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Dawsonville .

Located in northern Georgia, about 50 km from the Tennessee border, the county covers 554 square kilometers, eight square kilometers of which is water, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Lumpkin County , Hall County , Forsyth County , Cherokee County , Pickens County, and Gilmer County .
The county is part of the metropolitan area of Atlanta .
history
Dawson County was formed on December 3, 1857 as the 118th County in Georgia from parts of Lumpkin County, Gilmer County and Forsyth County. Like Dawsonville, it was named after William Crosby Dawson , a judge and commander of a brigade in the Indian War and a member of Congress.

95.6% of the population identified themselves as whites, 0.5% as African American , 0.4% as Indians and 0.6% as Asian Americans . 1.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.4% to several ethnic groups. 4.1% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
