The Forsyth County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Cumming .

geography

The county is located in north-central Georgia, about 120 km to the west from Alabama , about 100 km to the north-northwest from Tennessee , about 90 km to the north from North Carolina, and about 80 km to the northeast from South Carolina . It has an area of ​​641 square kilometers, of which 56 square kilometers are water surface and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Hall County , Gwinnett County , Fulton County , Cherokee County and Dawson County .

The county is part of the metropolitan area of ​​Atlanta .

history

Forsyth County was formed on December 3, 1832 from parts of Cherokee County. It was named after John Forsyth , a Georgia governor and US Secretary of State under Presidents Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren .
