The Emanuel County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Swainsboro , which was named after Colonel Stephen Swain .

The county is located in east Georgia, about 70 km to the northeast from South Carolina and about 140 km to the southeast from the Atlantic Ocean . It has an area of ​​1788 square kilometers, of which twelve square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Burke County , Jenkins County , Bulloch County , Candler County , Toombs County , Treutlen County , Johnson County and Jefferson County .

history

Emanuel County was formed on December 10, 1812. It was named after David Emanuel , a governor of Georgia. The seat of the county administration, Swainsboro, was briefly renamed Paris after the formation of the county, but then converted back to Swainsboro.
