The Cobb County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Marietta , named after Judge Cobb's wife.
geography
The county is located in central northwest Georgia, about 120 km to the north from Tennessee and about 80 km to the west from Alabama . It covers an area of 892 square kilometers, eleven square kilometers of which are covered by water, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Cherokee County , Fulton County , Douglas County , Paulding County, and Bartow Counties .
The county is part of the metropolitan area of Atlanta .
history
Cobb County was founded on December 2, 1832 from parts of Cherokee County and Indian Free Land as the 81st County of Georgia. It was named after Thomas W. Cobb , a member of Congress , US Senator, and Georgia Supreme Court Justice. Over time, Cobb County has been downsized several times by resolutions of the state parliament . In the 19th century, it lost a western border strip to Paulding County and its northeast corner with the establishment of Milton County . In 1932, Cobb County lost the important city of Roswell , which was needed as a connector when Milton County went bankrupt and Fulton County was added.

According to the 2010 census, the then 688,078 inhabitants were distributed among 260,056 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.61 people per household. There are a total of 286,490 households.
67.4% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.17 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 36.7% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 16.9% of all households.
28.3% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 29.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 13.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 35 years. 48.6% of the population were male and 51.4% were female.
62.2% of the population identified themselves as whites, 25.0% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 4.5% as Asian Americans . 5.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.7% to several ethnic groups. 12.3% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 64,657 USD , while 13.0% of the population lived below the poverty line.
