The Coffee County is located in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Douglas , named after Stephen A. Douglas , the opponent of Abraham Lincoln in the 1860 election campaign.

The county is located in central southeast Georgia, about 180 km to the west from the Atlantic Ocean and about 120 km to the south from Florida . It has an area of 1,561 square kilometers, of which ten square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Jeff Davis County , Bacon County , Ware County , Atkinson County , Berrien County , Irwin County , Ben Hill County and Telfair County .
history
Coffee County was formed on February 9, 1854 from parts of Clinch County, Irwin County, Telfair County, and Ware County. It was named after John E. Coffee , a general who emerged as a hero from the Indian Wars of 1812.
