The Stewart County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Lumpkin .

The county is located in southwest Georgia, on the border with Alabama and has an area of 1,200 square kilometers, of which twelve square kilometers are water surface, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Chattahoochee County , Marion County , Webster County , Randolph County and Quitman County .
history
Stewart County was formed on December 23, 1830. It was named after General Daniel Stewart , an officer in the Revolutionary War and great-grandfather of President Theodore Roosevelt .

According to the 2010 census, the then 6,058 inhabitants were distributed over 1,862 inhabited households, which results in an average of 2.35 people per household. There are a total of 2383 households.
63.7% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 2.97 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 28.2% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 33.9% of all households.

28.0% of the population identified themselves as whites, 47.3% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 0.7% as Asian Americans . 22.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.0% to several ethnic groups. 24.0% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
