The Jenkins County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Millen .

The county is located in east Georgia, about 35 km northeast of South Carolina , and covers an area of 913 square kilometers, seven square kilometers of which is water, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Screven County , Bulloch County , Emanuel County, and Burke County .
history
Jenkins County was formed on August 17, 1905 as the 138th County in Georgia from parts of Bulloch County, Burke County, Emanuel County, and Screven County. It was named after Governor Charles J. Jenkins , a politician and governor of the state of Georgia from 1865 to 1868.
The Millen Big Buckhead Church , built in 1830, is one of the oldest buildings in Georgia. The place Millen was also Seventy-Nine or Old 79 called, because of its distance from Savannah .

According to the 2010 census, the then 8,340 inhabitants were distributed over 3,192 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.59 people per household. There are a total of 4221 households.
67.8% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.16 persons. Children under the age of 18 lived in 34.7% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 29.9% of all households.
30.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 26.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 21.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 38 years. 47.5% of the population were male and 52.5% were female.
54.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 40.5% as African-Americans , 0.3% as Indians and 0.4% as Asian Americans . 2.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.3% to several ethnic groups. 4.0% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 24,604 USD , while 33.8% of the population lived below the poverty line.
