The Towns County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Hiawassee .

The county is located in the far north of Georgia, borders North Carolina and has an area of 446 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Rabun County , Habersham County , White County and Union County .
history
Towns County was formed on March 6, 1856 as the 117th County of Georgia from parts of Union County and Rabun County. It was named after George Washington Bonaparte Towns , a governor of Georgia.

According to the 2010 census, the 10,471 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 4,510 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.17 people per household. There are a total of 7,731 households.
66.1% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 2.65 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 20.2% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 46.1% of all households.
