The Bulloch County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Statesboro .

The county is located in eastern Georgia, about 80 km to the southeast from the Atlantic Ocean and about 40 km to the east from the neighboring state of South Carolina . It has an area of 1,784 square kilometers, of which 18 square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Screven County , Effingham County , Bryan County , Evans County , Candler County , Emanuel County and Jenkins County .

history

Bulloch County was formed on February 8, 1796 as the 21st county in the Georgia Territory. It was named after Archibald Bulloch , the first governor of the Georgia Territory.

According to the 2010 census, the then 70,217 inhabitants were distributed over 25,575 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.56 people per household. There are a total of 28,794 households.

57.8% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.08 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 30.4% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 18.3% of all households.

29.4% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 36.8% were 20 to 39 years old, 20.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 13.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 26 years. 49.9% of the population were male and 50.1% were female.

67.2% of the population identified themselves as whites, 27.6% as African-Americans , 0.3% as Indians and 1.5% as Asian Americans . 1.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.7% to several ethnic groups. 3.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

The average annual income per household was 35,642 USD , while 33.1% of the population lived below the poverty line.
