The Greene County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Greensboro .

The county is located in north-central Georgia and is approximately 37 miles northeast of South Carolina . It has an area of ​​1,052 square kilometers, of which 47 square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Oglethorpe County , Taliaferro County , Hancock County , Putnam County , Morgan County, and Oconee County .

history

Greene County was formed on February 3, 1786 as the 11th County in Georgia from parts of Washington County. It was named after General Nathanael Greene , a hero of the American Revolutionary War.
