The Catoosa County is located in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Ringgold .

The county is located in northwest Georgia, borders Tennessee to the north and has an area of 421 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water. The county is bordered clockwise by Whitfield Counties and Walker Counties .
The county is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area .
history
Catoosa County was formed on December 5, 1853 from parts of Walker County and Whitfield County. It was named after a word of the Cherokee Indians Gatusi , which means something like "special hill" or "certain place on a mountain" and went very well with the hilly landscape of the county. In 1863 the Battle of Chickamauga took place here , one of the bloodiest battles in the American Civil War, which temporarily put an end to the advance of Union troops into the Confederate territories.
