The Jeff Davis County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Hazlehurst , named after George Hazlehurst , a colonel and surveyor who surveyed the Macon & Brunswick Railroad line .

The county is located in central southeast Georgia and covers an area of 869 square kilometers, five square kilometers of which is water, and is bordered clockwise by counties: Toombs County , Appling County , Bacon County , Coffee County , Telfair County , Wheeler County, and Montgomery Counties .
history
Jeff Davis County was formed on August 18, 1905 as the 140th County in Georgia from parts of Appling County and Coffee County. It was named after Jefferson Davis , a US Secretary of War until the Civil War . From then on he was President of the Confederate States of America .
