The Jefferson County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Louisville , named after the French King Louis XVI. was named.

The county is located in northeast Georgia, about 25 miles to the northeast from South Carolina and has an area of 1,372 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers are water, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Richmond County , Burke County , Emanuel County , Johnson Counties , Washington Counties , Glascock Counties , Warren Counties, and McDuffie Counties .

Jefferson County was formed on February 20, 1796 from parts of Burke County and Warren County. It was named after President Thomas Jefferson .
