The Habersham County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Clarkesville , named after General John C. Clark .

The county in northern Georgia borders South Carolina in the northeast and is about 25 miles from North Carolina in the north . It covers an area of 723 square kilometers, of which three square kilometers are water surface, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Stephens County , Banks County , Hall County , White County, and Towns County .
history
Habersham County was formed from Indian Land as the 43rd County of Georgia on December 15, 1818. It was named after Major Joseph Habersham , an officer in the American Revolutionary War, Mayor of Savannah and later post director under President George Washington .
During the American Civil War , the county had an iron and steel mill that supplied rifles and cannons to the Confederate States .

According to the 2010 census, the 43,041 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 15,472 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.63 people per household. There are a total of 18,146 households.

85.7% of the population identified themselves as whites, 3.4% as African American , 0.5% as Indians and 2.2% as Asian Americans . 6.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.8% to several ethnic groups. 12.4% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 40,689 USD , while 17.8% of the population lived below the poverty line.
