The Decatur County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Bainbridge , named after Commodore William Bainbridge , commander of the USS Constitution .

The county is located in southwest Georgia on the northern border with Florida and has an area of ​​1,614 square kilometers, of which 68 square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Baker County , Mitchell County , Grady County , Seminole County and Miller County .

history

Decatur County was formed on December 8, 1823 from parts of Early County. It was named after Commodore Stephen Decatur , who defeated the Barbary Coast Pirates in 1815.
