The Madison County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Danielsville , named after General Allen Daniel .
geography
The county is located north-northeast of the geographic center of Georgia, is about 40 km from South Carolina in the southeast , and has an area of 740 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Hart County , Elbert County , Oglethorpe County , Clarke County , Jackson County , Banks County, and Franklin Counties .
The county is part of the Athens – Clarke County metropolitan area .
history
Madison County was formed on December 5, 1811 as the 38th county in Georgia from parts of Clarke County, Elbert County, Franklin County, Jackson County, and Oglethorpe Counties. It was named after the US President James Madison . Until the 1930s, the image of the county was dominated by huge cotton plantations in monoculture. Agriculture still comes first today.
Historical objects
In Colbert is located Colbert Historic District . The area comprises 43 buildings and is bordered between 4th & 5th Street and 4th & 8th Avenue. The district was listed on May 31, 1984 by the National Register of Historic Places as a Historic Monument with the number 84001154.

According to the 2010 census, the then 28,120 inhabitants were distributed over 10,508 inhabited households, which results in an average of 2.66 people per household. There are a total of 11,784 households.
74.3% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.07 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 35.4% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 26.2% of all households.
27.2% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 23.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 19.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 39 years. 49.4% of the population were male and 50.6% were female.
87.6% of the population identified themselves as whites, 8.4% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 0.6% as Asian Americans . 1.9% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.2% to several ethnic groups. 4.1% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 45,063 USD , while 16.1% of the population lived below the poverty line.
