The McDuffie County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Thomson , named after J. Edgar Thomson , a railroad official in Georgia.

The county is located in northeast Georgia, about 40 km off South Carolina and has an area of ​​690 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water surface and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Lincoln County , Columbia County , Richmond County , Jefferson County , Warren County and Wilkes County .

The county is part of the metropolitan area of ​​Augusta .

history

McDuffie County was formed on October 18, 1870 as the 132nd County in Georgia from parts of Columbia County and Warren Counties. It was named after George McDuffie , a Georgia-born governor and senator from South Carolina .
