The McDuffie County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Thomson , named after J. Edgar Thomson , a railroad official in Georgia.

The county is located in northeast Georgia, about 40 km off South Carolina and has an area of 690 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water surface and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Lincoln County , Columbia County , Richmond County , Jefferson County , Warren County and Wilkes County .
The county is part of the metropolitan area of Augusta .
history
McDuffie County was formed on October 18, 1870 as the 132nd County in Georgia from parts of Columbia County and Warren Counties. It was named after George McDuffie , a Georgia-born governor and senator from South Carolina .
