On December 3, 1832, "Cass County" was formed and renamed Bartow County on December 6, 1861. The first traces of human settlement date back to 10,000 BC. The first historical documentation comes from 1540 through the conquest by DeSoto. After the Mississippi Indians were expelled, the Creek Indians settled here until they were also expelled by the Cherokee Indians. They lived in this area until the end of the 18th century. Nevertheless, the days of the Indians were numbered from 1828, when the first gold discoveries were made in northern Georgia. The state of Georgia appropriated the Indian land and formed 10 counties, one of which was Cass County. The county is named in honor of General Lewis Cass , who was born in New Hampshire and served as secretary to President Andrew Jackson during the war .
The county seat was called Cassville, had two universities and the Georgian Supreme Court from 1846. After the Civil War, Cartersville became a county seat. The name was changed to Bartow County in honor of Francis Bartow , who died as a federal general in the Civil War. Before the Civil War, he was a lawyer in Cass County. After the civil war, the railway brought the necessary upswing. Today, the area's rich history plays an important role in tourism, which attracts thousands of tourists every year.
