The Worth County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is New Years Eve .

The county is located in south-central Georgia, about 50 miles to the south from Florida's northern border and has an area of ​​1,488 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Crisp County , Turner County , Tift County , Colquitt County , Mitchell County , Dougherty County, and Lee County .

The county is part of the Albany metropolitan area .

history

Worth County was formed on December 20, 1853 from parts of Dooly County and Irwin County. It was named after General William J. Worth , who fought in the Texan-Mexican War.

70.3% of the population identified themselves as whites, 27.6% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 0.3% as Asian Americans . 0.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.1% to several ethnic groups. 1.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

The average annual income per household was 38,684 USD , while 18.4% of the population lived below the poverty line.
