The Charlton County is located in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Folkston , which for many years was the self-proclaimed capital of weddings . Many people wishing to marry drove all over the country to get married here, as there were no waiting times after the bidding.

The county is located in the extreme southeast of Georgia, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Florida to the south . It covers an area of 2,028 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers are water, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Brantley County , Camden County, and Ware Counties .
history
Charlton County was formed as the 110th County on February 18, 1854 from parts of Camden County. It was named after Robert M. Charlton of Savannah, a US Senator and early lawyer in Georgia.
